Homemade Lunchable

One of the girls' favorite lunches is the homemade Lunchable.  They get to play with their food and "help" cook their lunch.  So, our featured lunch this week (we're going back to weekly posts) is the Fun Friday Lunchable in Laptop Lunchboxes.

Our main entree is a homemade Lunchable made with salami, turkey pepperoni, provolone and colby jack cheeses.  We used a small cookie cutter to cut the salami and cheese and added a little froggy pick to the box.  

We also have Ritz crackers for the girls to make sandwiches with.  We added a little ladybug pick to them. 

Our fruit side is a pink lady apple that has been cut into chunks.

Our dairy side is plain Greek yogurt with honey mixed in it and a few sprinkles for fun.

Finally, our Fun Friday treat is a small piece of Dove milk chocolate.

Christmas "Lunchable"

We had great success with our homemade "Lunchables" and found some great things to make a Christmas themed one that's really fun.

Our main entree is turkey pepperoni, colby jack cheese and snowflake shaped Ritz crackers.  We used a small Christmas tree cookie cutter to cut our cheese.

Our vegetable side is some sugar snap peas in an Easy Lunchboxes Mini Dipper.

Our fruit side is a pear that has been cut into chunks.

Finally, our dairy/dessert is vanilla yogurt.  We put a small container of Christmas tree sprinkles in the main compartment for the girls to put in their yogurt.

Lunches by Request

When Bean got home today, she raved about her "Lunchable" and asked for the same thing for tomorrow.  I was planning something different but she was so excited that I couldn't say no.  Plus, they are so easy to make, I didn't mind.  Molly requested that I make something new so I went with what I had planned.

Bean's lunch is a pepperoni, mozzarella and colby jack cheeses and Kashi TLC Asiago Cracker "Lunchable".

We added cucumber slices for her vegetable side.

The fruit side is a clementine and a few raspberries.

Finally, her dairy/dessert is Chobani Champions Vanilla Chocolate Chunk.

Molly's lunch is two shrimp spring rolls.  These have shrimp, rice noodles, herbs, lettuce, cucumbers, sugars snap peas and carrots in their rice paper wrapper.  We added a small container of peanut dipping sauce.

Her vegetables are in her main entree.

The fruit side is strawberries and raspberries.

Finally, her dairy/dessert is Chobani Champions Vanilla Chocolate Chunk, just like Bean.

Make Your Own Lunchable

If your kids are like mine, they are drawn toward those Lunchables available just about everywhere these days.  I understand that making your own cracker sandwiches is fun but there is so little actual food in those things that most kids would be starving an hour later.  We figured that we'd just make our own.

Our main entree is Kashi TLC Toasted Asiago Crackers, Turkey Pepperoni and Mozzarella and Colby Jack Cheeses cut out with our circle cookie cutter.  (Pretty much everything in the Lunchable but much healthier.)

Our vegetable side is multi colored bell peppers.  They were a big hit on the first day of school and we had plenty left to add some for tomorrow's lunch.

Our fruit side is a mix of blueberries, raspberries and strawberries.  We put a party hat on one of the strawberries to make the girls smile.

Finally, our dairy/dessert is our favorite Greek yogurt, Chobani Champions in the Verry Berry variety.

 

We also made a fun lunch for Daddy.  To say he's a Star Wars fan would be a huge understatement.  

This is turkey meatloaf on wild rice with pepper and berry sides.

Last Lunch of Summer

Our summer was, in a word, FANTASTIC!  We had a couple of impromptu trips, fun with family and friends and spent a LOT of time at the pool.  We enjoyed nights in our neighbor's back yard around the fire pit and caught fireflies while toasting marshmallows.  It was definitely a great time for all of us but alas, summer has come to an end and the school year starts on Monday.

One last lunch before summer ends for school.

The girls enjoyed some leftover homemade pizza, celery and carrot sticks, and a black velvet plum.  They were all fueled up for the last swimming session before school starts.  

CJ had a homemade "lunchable".  We used a circle shaped cookie cutter to cut cheese to fit on his crackers.  We then rolled up two pieces of turkey and put Captain America rings on them to keep them rolled up.  Captain America is his absolute favorite character...EVER!

His vegetable side is Trader Joe's shredded carrots.  He even ate a few of them!  This is a big thing for us since he is kind of anti-veggie. 

We added a peeled clementine for his fruit and he really enjoyed it.
